Reflexology is a non-invasive therapy performed on the feet that uses special manipulations with varying degrees of pressure to provide benefits to the client that are both physical and emotional.  It is based on the principle that there are reflex zones in the feet that are linked by energy pathways to corresponding parts of the body and, when pressure is applied, this stimulates the movement of energy along these pathways.

The human body is full of energy that is known by different names throughout the world, and is often referred to in the West as ‘life force’.  In physical terms the human body is a mass of energy fields which all influence each other.  This energy is circulating around the body influencing the different organs and systems, helping to maintain a state of balance called ‘homeostasis’.  When this energy flow is impeded the body does not function efficiently because it is out of balance.  It is believed that reflexology helps to unblock the congestion in the energy pathways, returning the body to a balanced state and improving the client’s physical and emotional well-being.  Benefits include:
Pain relief – known to stimulate the body to produce endorphins, the body’s own natural painkiller.  The relaxed state of treatment can also help to reduce the amount of pain as it relieves tension in muscles.
Prevents problems occurring – regular reflexology can help to prevent problems occurring by alleviating stress and preventing an imbalance in the body systems.  It is also believed to help to boost the immune system.
Detoxifies the body – it is believed to improve the function of the lymphatic system, detoxifying and cleansing internally and stimulating the excretory system to rid the body of waste.  It also helps the skin to function more efficiently, removing toxins and waste.
Aids relaxation – helping to balance emotions, it is an antidote to stress and induces relaxation, promoting restful sleep.  This relaxed state allows the energy to flow more easily, thereby revitalising the body.
Increases circulation – supplying blood to the organs is vital to function effectively, as it ensures all of the necessary nutrients and oxygen required and removes waste products.  Tension in the body restricts blood flow and reflexology relaxes the body, allowing the blood supply to flow more easily.
Stimulates the nervous system – nerves convey messages from the central nervous system to all parts of the body and through reflexology the nerve endings are stimulated.  This encourages the opening of neural pathways allowing messages to travel unimpeded so that all of the organs and systems of the body may be able to work together effectively.
